Annual Progress Report. Project “Fair Justice for Human Development”

The UNDP “Fair Justice for Human Development” Project (hereinafter – the “Project”) was initiated in April 2006. The Project is intended to be implemented within “democratic governance and access to justice” development area stated in the UNDAF 2006-2010 and in accordance with plan from CPAP (2006-2010) to be focused on : a) Administrative Reform and Civil Society Empowerment and b) Access to Justice and Human Rights.

The project is to ensure that UNDP continues to play a crucial role in promoting democratic governance in Ukraine by supporting Judicial system reform, Administrative and Civil Service  reform, institutional reform, promoting anti-corruption and rule of law work in cooperation with  Ministry of Justice, the National Commission on Strengthening Democracy and Rule of Law,  State Court Administration, High Administrative Court, Main State Civil Service by:

  • providing policy advice,
  • providing support to the preparation of concepts of laws, legal opinions and draft legislation,
  • promoting a citizen-state dialogue through public awareness activities
  • capacity building activities.

The overall project objective is to continue to effectively support the establishment of democratic governance in Ukraineas a critical aspect of Ukraine’s European integration aspirations.

In order to achieve main goal of the project the activities are to be undertaken in three main directions:

  • Support to Judiciary Reform;
  • Support to National Commission on Strengthening Democracy and Rule of Law and Ministry of Justice of Ukraine; and
  • Support to Main Department of Civil Service of Ukraine.

Local volunteers to help prevent HIV/AIDS in Mohyliv-Podilsky

Mohyliv-Podilsky, 15-16 May: Over 50 local volunteers have underwent specialised training by a UNDP-led Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme (MGSDP) to further build their capacity in HIV/AIDS awareness and prepare them for disseminating this knowledge among local youth using a peer-to-peer approach.

UNDP contributes to establishing Youth Centres for Chornobyl-affected youth

Brusyliv District, Zhytomyr Region, 11 May: Local community organizations have united their efforts with the authorities and international aid organizations to open youth centres in the two villages for Chornobyl-affected youth.
